How to format an international fax number
Enter a plus sign, the destination country code, and the remaining fax number. In many countries, the domestic leading zero is removed when the international country code is used.
The basic format
Use + [country code] [area or network code] [subscriber number]. Spaces and dashes can improve readability, but verify every digit against the recipient's current published fax number.
Germany (+49)
Remove the domestic leading zero from the area code. Schematic example: 030 1234 56XX becomes +49 30 1234 56XX.
United States (+1)
Use +1 followed by the complete 10-digit number. Fictional NANP example: +1 212 555 01XX.
United Kingdom (+44)
Remove the domestic leading zero. Schematic example: 020 7946 0XXX becomes +44 20 7946 0XXX.
Austria (+43)
Remove the domestic leading zero from the area code. Schematic example: 01 234 56XX becomes +43 1 234 56XX.
Switzerland (+41)
Remove the domestic leading zero. Schematic example: 044 123 45XX becomes +41 44 123 45XX.
Before submitting
Confirm that the destination is an active fax endpoint, not a voice or mobile number, and check the recipient's current submission instructions. A correctly formatted number improves routing but cannot guarantee delivery.
Frequently asked questions
Do I include the plus sign?
Yes. GoFaxNow expects international format beginning with + and the country code.
Do I keep the leading zero in an area code?
Often no. Germany, the UK, Austria, and Switzerland normally drop the domestic trunk zero after the country code. Always verify the recipient's published international number.
Does a correct number guarantee delivery?
No. The receiving endpoint must also be available and compatible, and the carrier route must complete the technical transmission.
