Why did my fax fail?
A failed fax usually means the technical transmission could not complete. The reported reason is useful guidance, but it may not identify the recipient-side cause with certainty.
Busy
The receiving line was occupied during the attempt. Confirm the number and try again later if the recipient says the fax line is active.
No answer
The destination did not answer as a fax endpoint. The number may be wrong, temporarily unavailable, disconnected, or not configured for fax.
Declined
The receiving system or carrier rejected the call. Ask the recipient to confirm that the published number currently accepts fax and whether it restricts incoming routes.
Connection dropped
The call connected but ended before the document finished transmitting. Temporary line quality, compatibility, or recipient-device conditions can cause this result.
Fax signaling error
The two fax endpoints could not complete protocol negotiation. Confirm the number is a fax line; if it is, ask the recipient whether the endpoint is operational.
Invalid number
Check the country code, remove domestic trunk prefixes where required, and make sure no digit is missing. Do not send repeatedly until the recipient number is verified.
Frequently asked questions
Should I immediately resend a failed fax?
First verify the number and recipient availability. A later retry may help with a busy or temporarily unavailable line, but repeated attempts cannot fix an invalid or non-fax number.
Can GoFaxNow tell exactly what happened at the recipient?
Not always. The service reports the technical result available from the provider or network. Recipient-side device configuration and internal handling may not be visible.
Will a failed status create proof that I tried to meet a deadline?
The status records a technical outcome only. It does not determine legal effect or deadline compliance. Follow the recipient's official procedure and seek qualified advice where necessary.
